The industry question...
It’s something I hear often—“Should I tip my photographer?”
And the honest answer is: it depends.
Unlike industries like dining or personal grooming, tipping in photography isn’t a universal standard. But as with many service-based professions, there are moments when clients feel moved to show their appreciation with a little extra.
Tipping: The Basics
Let’s clear this up right away: tipping your photographer is never expected, but always appreciated.
With LS the Photographer, what you see is what you get—upfront pricing that includes everything from your session to editing and delivery. I don’t build in expectations for gratuity because your trust, kind words, and referrals already mean so much to me.

So, when do people tip?
While there’s no pressure at all, here are a few scenarios where clients sometimes choose to tip:
- Weddings, elopements, or full-day events When I’m spending the day documenting everything from the big moments to the small details.
- Sessions with tricky conditions (rain, restless toddlers, or lots of moving parts!)
- When a client is beyond thrilled with the final gallery
- Just because. (Some people are just naturally generous!)

Othe ways to show appreciation
If tipping doesn’t feel like the right fit for you, that’s perfectly okay. Here are a few other ways to show your appreciation that truly make a difference:
- Leave a thoughtful review on Google or Facebook
- Tag me in your social media posts
- Refer a friend or family members
- Send a quick thank-you message after receiving your gallery
These gestures go such a long way in supporting small businesses like mine—and they mean more than you know.
In the end...
Whether you choose to tip or not, know this: your support matters.
Booking a session, trusting me with your memories, and showing up wholeheartedly is what really counts.
Tipping? Optional.
Appreciation? Always felt.
And as I always say—never expected, always appreciated.
